Term: SPRING 2017
Location: VANCOUVER, BC – UO Study Abroad
Course: STUDIO
Tasked with revitalizing a parking lot into an attraction for the island, a food museum and greenhouse seemed like a perfect fit. Beginning as an industrial manufacturing area Granville Island is transforming into a vibrant Vancouver attraction with many residential artists. The Island includes a large public market, many breweries and restaurants. The museum has the potential to tell the story of the Island’s transformation, showcase the work of the island’s local artists and makers, as well as house a permanent exhibition relating to the history of cuisine in the region.
On the roof of the museum is a greenhouse functioning as an interactive exhibit to display the potential for urban agriculture. The three level satellite building will include a restaurant, event space, and an area to hold cooking classes. In partnership with the neighboring hotel, these additions would cement Granville Island as a déguster’s destination.
